The Addis Ababa Light Rail, operated by the city-owned Addis Ababa Light Rail Transport Service Enterprise, is sub-Saharan Africa's first light rail system. Its Green Line runs from Ayat to Tor Hailoch and the Blue Line from Menelik II Square to Kality, sharing a 2.7 km central section — 39 stations across roughly 34 km. Launched in 2015 with Chinese-built, fully electric low-floor trains, it carries commuters daily and now sells tickets through the Telebirr app.
