✨ Desert-Adapted Elephant Refuge & Semi-Arid Ecosystem
The Babile Elephant Sanctuary is a critical semi-arid wilderness area established to protect a unique population of desert-adapted elephants. It represents one of the most significant conservation efforts in eastern Ethiopia, spanning diverse, rugged terrains including deep valleys and scrublands. The sanctuary is not only a refuge for these rare elephants but also supports other wildlife species, such as lions, leopards, and various gazelles, making it an important, albeit remote, biodiversity hotspot in the Horn of Africa.
