Lake Langano

Lake Langano is a major recreational rift valley lake located roughly 200 kilometers south of Addis Ababa. Uniquely renowned as one of the few freshwater lakes in Ethiopia free from bilharzia (schistosomiasis), it is a premier destination for swimming, water sports, and beach relaxation. The lake’s distinctive golden-brownish water is due to rich mineral deposits and fine sediment. Bordered by acacia woodlands, sandy beaches, and luxury eco-lodges, Lake Langano provides a gateway to nearby wildlife reserves such as Abijatta-Shalla Lakes National Park and offers views of the Eastern Rift Valley escarpments.
