✨ The World's Most Inaccessible Sacred Cliff Church
Abuna Yemata Guh is a breathtaking rock-hewn church carved into a sandstone pinnacle standing 2,580 meters high in the Gheralta mountain range. Dating back to the 5th or 6th century and attributed to Abuna Yemata—one of the Nine Saints who spread Christianity in Ethiopia—the church is world-famous for its daring ascent. Reaching the chapel requires navigating a sheer vertical cliff using ancient footholds and handholds, followed by walking across a narrow, exposed ledge with a 200-meter drop. Despite its remote location, the interior is remarkably preserved, featuring wall paintings and murals untouched by moisture or sunlight.
