Chamo Lake

Chamo Lake is a massive freshwater lake in the Ethiopian Rift Valley, located adjacent to the Nech Sar National Park. It is world-renowned for its dense population of giant Nile crocodiles, some of which grow to massive sizes. The area known as the "Crocodile Market" is a specific shoreline stretch where these prehistoric predators congregate in high numbers to bask in the sun. The lake also supports large pods of hippopotamuses and a rich array of birdlife, including the African fish eagle and various pelican species, making it a primary destination for water-based wildlife safaris in Southern Ethiopia.
